چکیده
The forward osmosis (FO) process was suggested as a pretreatment to multi-stage flashing (MSF) plant reduce the environmental impact of brine discharge and chemicals used. Yet, there is no study investigating performance FO MSF using tertiary sewage effluent (TSE) feed solution. Combining with TSE generates considerable permeation flux, reducing membrane area capital cost. This evaluated for indirect desalination brine, considering fouling, cleaning, required specific power consumption. used thin-film composite (TFC) dilute reject from by hence converting waste solutions into feasible water resource. A high flux (±35 L/m2h) generated slightly decreased throughout each experiment's 4 cycles. An enhancement in permeability observed tests prefiltration wastewater 20 ?m an osmotic backwash cleaning membrane. draw effective minimizing fouling. Maximum consumption 0.007 kWh/m³ consumed without 0.006 process. proposed system successfully diluted reject’ divalent ions, their concentration 43% some cases. Depending on orientation, solution resulted 276%–473% reduction number elements compared seawater

A comparative life cycle assessment of hybrid osmotic dilution desalination and established seawater desalination and wastewater reclamation processes.
The purpose of this study was to determine the comparative environmental impacts of coupled seawater desalination and water reclamation using a novel hybrid system that consist of an osmotically driven membrane process and established membrane desalination technologies. A comparative life cycle assessment methodology was used to differentiate between a novel hybrid process consisting of forward...
متن کاملMathematical model of dynamic behavior of microbial desalination cells for simultaneous wastewater treatment and water desalination.
Microbial desalination cells (MDCs) are an emerging concept for simultaneous wastewater treatment and water desalination. This work presents a mathematical model to simulate dynamic behavior of MDCs for the first time through evaluating multiple factors such as organic supply, salt loading, and current generation. Ordinary differential equations were applied to describe the substrate as well as...
متن کاملHybrid Supervisory Control of the Brine Heater for Multi Stage Flash Desalination Plants
Multistage Flash desalination is the most common process large-scale distillation process to produce freshwater from seawater. Its operation is energy intensive and essential for the maintenance of life support in regions with scarcity of water resources. Such plants need an efficient control system in order to be economically viable. Fortunately, the plant can be broken down into subsystems, w...
متن کاملUsing bacterial catalyst in the cathode of microbial desalination cell to improve wastewater treatment and desalination.
A microbial desalination cell (MDC) is able to desalinate salt water without energy consumption whilst generating bioenergy. Previously MDCs used abiotic cathodes, which are restricted in application by high operating costs and low levels of sustainability whereas, in the present study, an aerobic biocathode consisting of carbon felt and bacterial catalysts was tested. The biocathode MDC produc...
